As I looked at his early landscapes a sense of familiarity came to me that was different from knowing the paintings. I knew this land, I had seen these wide open spaces, It wasn’t until I looked at the labels I realised they were from his time spent teaching at the University of Illinois. I knew this land because I travelled through it by plane and train to get to The 11th International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry in May. My body and sight held the memories.
